LEADERSHIP TEAM
There is nothing more precious than your child — and we take that responsibility to heart. When you entrust us with their care, we know you’re placing incredible trust in our hands.
Our leadership team brings over 70 years of combined experience in camping and youth development. Together, we’re dedicated to giving campers the freedom to explore, grow, and gain independence — all within a structure of safety.
At the center of everything we do is one simple word: CARE. We care about your child’s well-being, their happiness, and their unique spark. Every camper is known, seen, and celebrated for exactly who they are.
We’re proudly independent, women-owned-and-operated, and intentionally small — about 200 campers at a time — which means you’ll always have a direct line to one of our Directors.

Sadie Kurzban is our Executive Director and co-owner. A serial entrepreneur and loving mom, Sadie grew up with four siblings in a vibrant Jewban (Jewish-Cuban) household. Sadie graduated Brown University phi beta kappa and magna cum laude. She founded a venture-backed company that spanned multiple cities: 305 Fitness, a body-positive dance workout. She exited this business to join the Medolark family. When she’s not in Maine for the summer, she resides in New York City with her husband and their son, Mitch. At camp, you can catch her in the dance studio and at circus.
At the heart of everything Sadie does: a spirit of play, possibility, and no-nonsense honesty.

Calling Medolark home since 1999, Jody Moser is our Director of Programming and Culture. Jody manages our entire program with care and vision — building a well-rounded curriculum where kids can learn and explore, and matching each offering with the most talented instructors. A former camper and beloved counselor, he’s also a two-time national college curling champion and classically trained singer. Jody is an Associate Professor of Humanities at Maine Maritime Academy. As Medolark’s Ethicist in Residence, he helps uphold the camp’s values to foster a warm, inclusive community.
At the heart of everything Jody does: empathy, integrity, and heart.

Jerry Hess, our beloved Head Chef, has been with Med-o-lark for 14 years. When he’s not at Medolark, he is overseeing a very large school kitchen in Pennsylvania. Jerry is passionate about healthy, locally sourced food. Jerry works closely with local farms to bring fresh, nutritious meals to camp—think homemade granola, hearty mains, and colorful salad bars. When he’s not cooking, he’s spending time with his two beloved dogs, Tillie and Fred. Thanks to Jerry’s care and creativity, Med-o-lark proudly serves some of the best camp food anywhere!
At the heart of everything Jerry does: collaboration, respect, and consistency.

STAFFING FAQS
-
At Medolark, we maintain a low counselor-to-camper ratio (typically 1:3–1:4) to ensure every camper is known, supported, and encouraged. Each cabin also has multiple counselors, so kids always have an adult they trust nearby.
-
Yes. Every staff member—domestic and international—undergoes a full background check, including national criminal screening, sex-offender registry check, and reference verification. We also partner with reputable international staffing agencies who complete equivalent vetting abroad.
-
Before campers arrive, our team participates in a 10-day, hands-on orientation covering camper care, safety, boundaries, inclusion, and leadership. We also provide daily check-ins, weekly meetings, and regular feedback to help staff grow and stay aligned with camp values.
-
Each counselor is supported by a Head Counselor and our Director team, who live on site and provide daily mentorship. We emphasize teamwork, communication, and accountability—so even our youngest counselors always have strong guidance and support.
-
We have a Health Center staffed by medical professionals on site 24/7. The Health Center is able to treat bug/tick bites, the common cold and small sprains. Our health center distributes medications, vitamins, and supplements to campers. For campers requiring more in-depth medical testing or care, we have an urgent care center within 15 minutes and two level-1 trauma center hospitals within 25 minutes.
