Med-O-Lark campers enjoy a whole range of sports activities as both part of the elective program and simply at their leisure during the day. Campers play beach volleyball lakeside, tennis on our three courts, soccer on our central field as well as a host of other sports. Med-O-Lark encourages all campers to balance their schedules and choose to participate in sports and physical activity regardless of prior training or skill.

The Med-O-Lark Sports Program emphasizes physical activity and personal growth over competitiveness. Regardless of accomplishment in any particular sport, Med-O-Larkers will always find athletic activities which challenge and reward them– we feel this is the biggest trophy a camper leaves camp with!

Spotlight on some of our sports offerings:

Swordplay, a martial art form practiced for centuries, evolved into the modern sport of fencing. At Med-O-Lark, three modern swords, Foil, Sabre and Epee are taught and equipment is provided to campers for all three. The program is designed for campers of all fencing levels. Campers that fence at home may bring and safely store their own equipment.

Horseback Riding

Med-O-Lark offers horseback riding lessons using our on-site farm property.  Children are not transported off camp grounds in order to enjoy this program. Med-O-Lark contracts each summer with a nearby program that operates during the school year.  The animals, as well as the staff,  join our family each summer when school lets out. As such, lessons are taught by experienced instructors who are familiar with each horse’s temperament, enabling effective pairings with different skill levels. Ring work includes instruction in basic, balanced seat equitation as well in the fundamentals of beginning jumping.  In addition, campers learn basic grooming, horse care, saddling and tacking up for the ride.  Riding at Med-O-Lark appeals largely to beginners and intermediate riders.  Horses are ordered based on demand, therefore pre-registration and a separate fee accompanies this choice of activity.
